Meet Emma
I'm a singer, choir conductor and vocal educator based between Nottingham and Sheffield. I combine a flourishing performance career with choral leadership and music education, and I'm passionate about creating musical experiences that inspire confidence, artistry and lifelong healthy singing.
My musical journey began at the age of nine when I joined the world-renowned Cantamus Girls Choir. Under the guidance of the late Pamela Cook MBE, I developed the discipline, musicianship and artistry that continue to shape my work today, later becoming one of the choir's featured soloists.
I went on to study at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, where I performed in a wide range of opera and oratorio productions, before completing an MSc at the Royal College of Music in 2021. I continue to develop my artistry under the mentorship of internationally acclaimed soprano Rachel Nicholls and conductor Bradley Smith, maintaining an active performing career alongside my work as an educator and conductor.
As a soprano, I enjoy performing both as a soloist and professional choral singer. Recent engagements include appearances with Sheffield Chamber Orchestra, performing Canteloube's Chants d'Auvergne, alongside a varied repertoire of concert, choral and sacred music.
As a conductor, I believe healthy voices create better music. Every rehearsal combines musical excellence with practical vocal technique, helping singers develop confidence, freedom and sustainable vocal habits. Whether I'm directing Concordia Voices in Sheffield, leading my thriving community choir in Nottinghamshire or delivering workshops across the region, I strive to create rehearsals that are engaging, inclusive and rooted in lasting vocal wellbeing.
Alongside my conducting, I'm a passionate vocal tutor and music educator. I currently train the next generation of girl choristers at Southwell Minster and serve as a Lead Music Educator and Choral Conductor with Sheffield Music Hub, working with singers of all ages and abilities across South Yorkshire.
At the heart of everything I do is a belief that music has the power to bring people together. Whether I'm performing on stage, directing a choir or leading a vocal workshop, my aim is to help every singer discover their own voice while creating performances that are both artistically ambitious and genuinely joyful.
When I'm not rehearsing, teaching or performing, you'll usually find me exploring the Peak District, where the landscape provides the same sense of perspective, creativity and inspiration that I strive to bring to my music making.
